July 2026 brings one of the richest cultural calendars Rome has seen in recent years. On many summer evenings, the open-air Cavea of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone fills with world-class artists as part of the Roma Summer Fest, while Rock in Roma closes its 16th edition at the Ippodromo delle Capannelle. Free museum Sundays, the largely pedestrianised Via Appia Antica and the Vatican Museums monthly free opening round out the calendar for every kind of visitor.

Overview: Every Sunday in July, the Via Appia Antica is largely pedestrianised, closing to most private traffic. Built in 312 BC, the ancient road is freely accessible on foot, with original basalt paving stones, ancient tombs and ruins along the route. One of Rome’s most atmospheric free experiences, especially beautiful in the long light of a summer evening.
