PLUGS, ADAPTERS AND VOLTAGE IN LISBON

In Lisbon and throughout Portugal, the standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. Portugal uses the Europlug (Type C) and the Schuko plug (Type F) as the most common types of power outlets. These plugs have two round pins.

Plug and Outlet Types:

  • Type C: European “Europlug” with two round pins.
  • Type F: “Schuko” plug with two round pins and two grounding clips.

If your devices have a different type of plug, you’ll need a travel adapter to fit the Portuguese outlets. Additionally, you might need a voltage converter if your device doesn’t support the 230 V standard. Most modern electronics, like laptops and smartphones, are designed to handle a wide range of voltages, so a voltage converter isn’t necessary. Always double-check your device’s label or manual to confirm its voltage compatibility.

It’s a good practice to carry a universal travel adapter, which can be used in multiple countries and regions, so you won’t need a specific adapter for each destination. These adapters are readily available at electronics stores or can be purchased online before your trip to Lisbon.
